Dr Joseph Chun is a Partner at Shook Lin & Bok LLP and Head of the firm’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practice. He is a leading authority in environmental law and the lead author of Singapore’s definitive environmental law textbook, contributing to the standards of the field. He serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore and is a member of the Asia‑Pacific Centre for Environmental Law.

He advises on environmental due diligence for asset acquisitions, green deposit schemes, climate‑related litigation risk, sustainability reporting, and regulatory compliance under greenhouse gas regulations, waste management, and trade effluent discharge regimes. He has acted for real estate investment trusts, banks, asset managers, airports, and global law firms on environmental and ESG matters. He is also deeply embedded in the sustainability ecosystem, serving on SVCA’s ESG and Impact Committee, the Global Alliance of Impact Lawyers, and Mandai Wildlife Group’s Animal Welfare and Ethics Committee. He is a member of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law.

He holds a PhD in Laws from University College London (2003) and an LL.B (Hons) from the National University of Singapore (1991). He is admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of Singapore (1992) and as a Solicitor of England and Wales (1999). He has been recognised as the Green Ambassador by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific (2024‑2026).
