John Tan

John Tan is a Partner at Shook Lin & Bok LLP, specialising in real estate law, corporate real estate, and real estate financing. He has over a decade of experience advising on a wide spectrum of real estate transactions across the commercial, industrial, and residential sectors, including direct acquisitions and disposals, sale and leaseback arrangements, commercial leasing, and indirect property investment transactions.

John has developed particular expertise in niche real estate sub-sectors such as petrol service stations, oil refineries, dormitories, co‑living and co‑working spaces, high‑tech agriculture, hospitality, manufacturing, medical facilities, aviation, and self‑storage. He has acted for ENEOS Corporation in its US$2.2 billion acquisition of Chevron Corporation's downstream fuels and lubricants marketing businesses; for the trustee of Boustead Industrial Trust in the S$650 million acquisition of JTC industrial properties; for a leading self‑storage operator in a series of acquisitions and debt financings; and for major building owners and anchor tenants in complex lease negotiations. He also advises banks, financial institutions, corporates, and high‑net‑worth individuals on secured real estate financing transactions, including land and construction financing, and has acted for a project company in the restructuring of an over S$600 million syndicated project financing facility.

John holds a JD from Singapore Management University (2011) and a Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences (Honours) with a minor in Business Administration from the National University of Singapore (2009). He was called to the Singapore Bar in 2012.
