Jonathan Choo

Jonathan Choo is a Partner at Allen & Gledhill, specialising in banking and finance law and maritime finance. He advises local and international banks, shipowners, finance leasing companies, shipping trusts, and equity investors on loan and lease financings, green and sustainability‑linked financings, debt restructurings, and asset sale and purchase transactions involving maritime and offshore assets.

Jonathan has acted as transaction counsel to a syndicate of lenders on secured term loan facilities aggregating over US$700 million for the post‑delivery financing of eight dual‑fuel newbuild vessels, including green financing of a dual‑fuelled vessel. He has also acted on a US$150 million secured term loan for the financing of a newbuild maritime asset deployed for offshore wind power marine engineering operations, a JOLCO container box financing featuring an ISDA‑governed structured swap, and the debt restructuring of facilities aggregating over US$300 million owed by an offshore oil and gas group, including structuring the warehousing of a key offshore asset through a bankruptcy‑remote orphan trust structure.

Jonathan holds an LL.B. (Hons) from the National University of Singapore. He was called to the Singapore Bar in 2008 and was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors of England and Wales in 2025.

He is a member of the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) and served as Singapore's IMO Goodwill Maritime Ambassador, an appointment made by the International Maritime Organization on the nomination of the Government of Singapore.
