Gautam Narasimhan

Gautam Narasimhan is the Managing Partner of ASEAN at A&O Shearman in Singapore, focusing on Banking and Finance Law. He focuses on leveraged finance, structured finance, credit funds and private equity in South and Southeast Asia, particularly in India, Indonesia, Vietnam and Singapore.

He has advised many international banks, private equity funds and credit funds on numerous high-profile financings and structured transactions in the region, including some of the most significant acquisition financings on recent high-value intra-Asia deals. Gautam has been practising in Singapore for the last 18 years and worked in London and New York previously. He is qualified in England, Singapore, New York and India.

Chambers Asia Pacific 2019 states that Gautam is “very commercial and solution-seeking and has the necessary gravitas… when you have a tricky situation he’s good at coming up with solutions.”

His expertise covers finance, leveraged finance, project development and finance, private equity, and leveraged finance and high yield, with industries spanning energy, banks, mining and metals, private capital, private equity, sovereign wealth and institutional investors, and private credit.

His published work includes “The Legality of Options and Futures Derivatives in India” (19 SEBI & CORP. L (India) 52, 1999), “Taxation of Speculatives under the Income Tax Act – An analysis of Options and Futures” (102 TAX (India) 267, 1999), and, with Professor Andreas Lowenfeld, Documents on International Finance: International Business Transactions (New York University, 2000).

He was admitted as an advocate in India in 2000, as a solicitor of England and Wales in 2004, to the bar of the State of New York in 2005, and as an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Singapore in 2019. He speaks English.
