Joo Thye Tan

Joo Thye Tan is a Consultant in the Finance Practice Group at Dentons Rodyk, specialising in energy law, infrastructure and project finance, and banking and finance. He has extensive experience in cross-border project development, financing, and M&A across emerging markets in Asia, including Indonesia, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, the Philippines, and China.

Joo Thye has advised on the development of traditional and renewable energy power plants and infrastructure assets, including hydroelectric, solar, wind, gas, and coal-fired power plants, routinely seeing transactions through from inception to commercial operation. He has advised Chinese SOE EPC contractors on multiple power projects across Southeast Asia, including the US$1 billion 4 x 127.5MW hydroelectric power plant in North Sumatera, Indonesia; a 2 x 660 MW coal-fired thermal facility in Vietnam valued at US$2.3 billion; and bids for PLN's 10,000 MW crash programme in Indonesia. He also has extensive experience advising banks and financial institutions on bilateral, club and syndicated loans, export credit agency-supported financing, and acquisition financing.

Joo Thye holds an LL.B (Hons) from the National University of Singapore (1989) and was called to the Singapore Bar as an Advocate and Solicitor in 1990. He is also admitted as a Solicitor in England and Wales (2001).

He has been consistently recognised as a Leading Individual for Projects and Energy by Chambers Asia-Pacific and Chambers Global, a Distinguished Practitioner for Energy by Asialaw, and a Notable Practitioner in Project Development and Project Finance by IFLR1000.
