Mohan Gopalan

Mohan Gopalan is a Director in the Corporate Restructuring & Workouts practice at Drew & Napier, specializing in Bankruptcy and Insolvency Law. He advises debtors, creditors, and insolvency office‑holders on transactional and litigation aspects of insolvency and debt restructuring.

Mohan has been involved in several major restructuring transactions, including the US$2 billion restructuring of PT Berlian Laju Tanker Tbk (named Restructuring Deal of the Year at the IFLR Asia Awards 2016 and Insolvency Deal of the Year at the Asian Lawyer Emerging Markets Awards 2016); the US$2.5 billion restructuring of Pacific Andes (named Finance Deal of the Year (Restructuring and Insolvency) at The Asian Lawyer Asia Legal Awards 2017 and Asialaw Asia‑Pacific Dispute Resolution Award 2017 – Matter of the Year); advising Heliconia Capital Management (part of Temasek Holdings) on its US$600 million investment in the restructuring of Pacific International Lines; advising the informal steering committee of lenders in the insolvency of Hin Leong Trading; and advising the Public Utilities Board and the National Environment Agency on Hyflux‑related desalination and waste‑to‑energy plants. He has also been involved in landmark cases including Re Pacific Andes Resources Development Ltd [2018] 5 SLR 125.

He holds an LL.B (Hons) from the National University of Singapore and an LL.M. in Banking and Finance Law from London. He was admitted to the Singapore Bar in 2011.

Mohan is recognised as a Leading Lawyer by Chambers & Partners, a Next Generation Partner by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific, a Rising Star Partner by IFLR 1000, and a Rising Star by Asialaw Leading Lawyers. He was also listed in the inaugural Global Restructuring Review ‘40 under 40’ (2016).
