Chahat Chawla

Chahat Chawla is an International Counsel at Allen & Gledhill LLP, specialising in international arbitration and cross-border dispute resolution. He regularly acts as counsel in international arbitrations administered by the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), and the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), with a particular focus on India-related disputes.

He has represented an Indian EPC contractor in two Singapore-seated ICC arbitrations against a Rwanda-based entity concerning the EPC of a power plant in Africa, a leading Spanish energy company in a SIAC arbitration involving construction quality of a solar power plant in Southeast Asia, and a leading Swedish group in a SIAC arbitration against a Chinese entity concerning the sale of defective gas cookers. He has also acted for a major Japanese trading house in a SIAC arbitration against a Korean entity relating to batteries for electric vehicles, a leading Indian pharmaceutical company in an ICC arbitration against Australian entities on a breach of confidence claim, and a leading Indian private equity firm in a SIAC arbitration against a Singaporean institutional investor. Prior to joining the firm, he was a counsel at SIAC where he administered over 100 international arbitrations across a range of sectors.

Chahat holds an LL.M. in International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution from the National University of Singapore, and a B.A., LL.B. (Hons) from the School of Law, Christ University, Bengaluru, India. He is qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales (non-practising) and is admitted to practice in India. He also serves as a sole arbitrator in SIAC arbitrations.
