David Chan

David Chan is the Co‑Managing Partner of Shook Lin & Bok LLP and Head of the Litigation & Dispute Resolution Department, specialising in bankruptcy and insolvency law, commercial litigation, and international arbitration. He has wide experience in general commercial litigation with particular focus on domestic and cross‑border finance‑related litigation, fraud, and insolvency matters.

David has acted successfully for the interim judicial managers of three entities in the Envy group of companies, the first investment fraud in Singapore's history to hit the billion‑dollar mark, and currently represents the Court‑appointed liquidators in the liquidation process. He has acted for the independent panel of Aljunied‑Hougang Town Council in a claim against current members and elected Members of Parliament over alleged improper payments; for the liquidators of Kyen Resources Pte Ltd, a metals trading company subsidiary of a company listed in China; and for a Hong Kong subsidiary of a listed Chinese company to reclaim a US$10 million deposit in relation to an infrastructure project in Indonesia. He has also acted for Humpuss Sea Transport Pte Ltd (in liquidation) to recover assets exceeding US$200 million; for the liquidators of Petroprod Ltd in proceedings to recover monies paid to management agents; and for creditors and former officers of Altus Shipping and Logistics Pte Ltd. He has also advised on the judicial management of a sub‑contractor in the construction of Terminal 1 and 4 of Changi Airport and the Panoil group of companies.

David holds an LL.B (Hons) from King's College London (1995), an LL.M from University College London (1999), and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb). He is a Barrister of Middle Temple (1996) and a Solicitor of England & Wales, and was called to the Singapore Bar in 1997. He is a former member of the Complaints and Disciplinary Panel of ACRA, former member of the Valuation Review Board under the Ministry of Finance, and former legal assessor to the Singapore Medical Council.

He has been consistently ranked as a leading lawyer in Restructuring & Insolvency and Dispute Resolution by Chambers Asia‑Pacific, Chambers Global, The Legal 500 Asia Pacific (Hall of Fame), Benchmark Litigation, IFLR1000, and Asialaw Profiles, and has been listed in Asia Business Law Journal's The A‑List: Singapore's Top 100 Lawyers (2023‑2026).
