David Chong, PBM

David Chong, PBM is Co‑Managing Partner at Shook Lin & Bok LLP, specialising in mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and antitrust and competition law. He has particular experience in the communications, media, technology, energy and natural resources sectors, with a strong focus on cross‑border transactions.

David has advised on numerous landmark transactions including the S$632 million pre‑conditional voluntary offer for Roxy‑Pacific Holdings; the S$232 million scheme take‑over of Excelpoint Technology by WT Microelectronics; the US$11.6 billion private equity buyout of Global Logistic Properties; the US$1.05 billion take‑private of Biosensors International Group; and the US$1.5 billion pre‑conditional take‑over offer for United Envirotech by a consortium comprising CITIC and KKR. He has also acted as lead counsel to Thailand's Betagro Group in its scheme take‑over of Eggriculture Foods for HK$444.38 million, and to Grindrod Shipping in respect of the acquisition of its residual minority shareholding. He has advised major financial institutions including Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, DBS, and J.P. Morgan on high‑profile takeovers, schemes, and restructurings.

David holds a BA (Hons) from Cambridge University (1997). He was called to the Singapore Bar in 1999 and admitted as a Solicitor of England & Wales in 2003.

He is consistently ranked as a leading individual in Corporate/M&A by Chambers Asia‑Pacific and Chambers Global, a Leading Partner in Corporate/M&A by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific, and a Highly Regarded Lawyer in M&A by IFLR1000. He also serves as a governor of the Singapore International Foundation, a director of Hotung Investment Holdings Ltd, and a member of the Catholic High School Management Committee. He was awarded the Public Service Medal (Pingat Bakti Masyarakat) by the President of the Republic of Singapore in 2022.
