Margaret Joan Ling

Margaret Joan Ling is a Partner in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution Department at Allen & Gledhill LLP, specialising in arbitration and mediation. Her areas of practice include construction disputes, shareholder disputes, investigations, employment matters, and sale of goods disputes, with significant experience in proceedings before the Singapore International Commercial Court and all levels of the Singapore courts.

She has acted to successfully resist the setting aside of an ICC arbitration award made in favour of an Asian government in a dispute concerning a major international transport facility, with the amount in dispute exceeding US$1 billion. She also successfully resisted the setting aside of a SIAC arbitration award made in favour of a subsidiary of an American multinational energy corporation in a dispute concerning production sharing contracts, with the amount in dispute exceeding US$40 million. She is currently acting for a dye company listed on the National Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange in India in a minority oppression claim. She has experience as an arbitrator under ICC and SIAC Rules and has been appointed amicus curiae under the Supreme Court's inaugural Young Amicus Curiae Scheme.

Margaret holds an LL.B. (Hons) from the National University of Singapore (Dean's List), where she received the Law Society of Singapore Book Prize. She was admitted to the Singapore Bar in 2007. She is recognised by The Legal 500, Benchmark Litigation Asia-Pacific, Global Arbitration Review, and Lexology Index for her expertise in arbitration and commercial litigation. She authored the Singapore chapter of Global Legal Insights: International Arbitration and co-authored the Singapore chapter of The International Arbitration Review. She has served as a Council Member of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators and is currently the subject editor (arbitration) for the Singapore Academy of Law Practitioner.
