Ong Ken Loon

Ong Ken Loon is a Director and Head of Tax & Private Client Services at Drew & Napier, advising on tax law aspects of corporate transactions, including income tax, GST, stamp duty and property tax. She works with local and multinational corporate groups, financial institutions and investment funds on mergers and acquisitions, corporate structures and restructurings, and also provides solutions to complex tax, succession and private wealth management issues for private clients.

She assists clients with negotiations with the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) and represents clients before the tax tribunals and Singapore courts. Notable tax litigation cases include Lai Ling Wan v Commissioner of Stamp Duties (successfully overturning the Commissioner's position in the High Court), Comptroller of Income Tax v MT (successfully defending a ship owner on tax exemption for bareboat charter fees), and First DCS Pte Ltd v Chief Assessor (representing the Chief Assessor before the High Court and Court of Appeal). Prior to joining Drew & Napier in 2008, she was a Principal Legal Officer in the Law Division of the IRAS.

She holds an LL.B. (Hons) from the National University of Singapore (2001) and an MSc in Taxation from the University of Oxford. She was admitted to the Singapore Bar in May 2002.
