Ramesh Kumar

Ramesh Kumar is a Partner at Allen & Gledhill LLP, specialising in dispute resolution. He regularly acts as lead counsel in a wide range of commercial disputes, including shareholder and joint venture disputes, banking disputes, disputes concerning the supply of goods or services, property-related disputes, and disputes arising out of trust arrangements and cryptocurrency deals. He has been described by peers as "a great up‑and‑coming talented practitioner."

He has successfully prosecuted a claim in excess of US$50 million for a power division of a large Indian conglomerate in an SIAC arbitration involving mining operations and the Indonesian regulatory framework for coal mining licences. He has successfully defended a shipping company against a claim for unpaid bunker charges in excess of US$21 million, and represented a broadcasting company in relation to a claim for payment of about US$80 million in fees allegedly due to a company based in Mauritius, involving arbitration in Singapore and concurrent satellite litigation in India. He has also represented a Singapore company in an action to intervene in civil forfeiture proceedings, successfully laying claim over a substantial proportion (valued in excess of S$16 million) of the profits that the Public Prosecutor was looking to confiscate.

He holds an LL.B. (Hons) from the National University of Singapore and was admitted to the Singapore Bar in 2008. He was selected for placement under the Supreme Court's Young Amicus Curiae Scheme in 2011 and spent six months in the London office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in 2013. He is recognised by Lexology Index, Benchmark Litigation, and The Legal 500 Asia Pacific for his disputes practice.
