Sean Tan

Sean Tan is a Director in the Dispute Resolution practice group at Drew & Napier, focusing on international arbitration and complex commercial litigation. He handles a variety of matters including director and shareholder disputes, professional negligence, manufacturing disputes, and finance-related claims.

He has represented multinational corporations and high-net-worth individuals at all levels of the Singapore Courts and in international arbitration proceedings. Notable matters include acting for an oil trading company in a US$2.7 billion claim against its former auditors, acting for the Chairman of a technology company in a claim seeking S$1.6 billion in damages, acting for an Australian construction joint venture in a S$4.2 billion ICC arbitration, and acting for a Japanese trading house in a S$420 million ICC arbitration. He is also experienced in defending applications to set aside arbitral awards, including a S$1.7 billion award concerning an energy dispute.

Sean holds a B.A. (Hons) with First Class Honours from the University of Oxford (2014), where he won the Worsley Prize, and an LL.M. from Columbia Law School (2018), where he was a Harlan Fiske Scholar. He is admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore (2016), a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales (2017), and an Attorney and Counselor-at-law of the State of New York (2019). He has previously practiced with Debevoise & Plimpton in New York.

He is an SMC accredited mediator and a contributing editor of Singapore Civil Procedure, published by Sweet & Maxwell.
