Alexander Yap

Alexander Yap is a Partner and Co-Head of the FinTech Practice at Allen & Gledhill, and also a Partner in the Technology & Corporate Intellectual Property Practice. He advises on the acquisition, divestiture, provision, and sharing of data, technology, and intellectual property assets (including cryptographic tokens and digital assets); data breach and cybersecurity strategy and compliance; and emerging technologies such as autonomous driving, metaverses, large language models, and generative AI.

Alexander advised a consortium of financial institutions on the setting up of Climate Impact X, a marketplace and exchange for carbon credits; advised the Government Technology Agency on Singpass; acted for various Sequoia Capital India and SEA funds on the purchase of cryptographic tokens; and acts for Web3 companies on gaming, promotional activities, and compliance with the Gambling Control Act 2022. He also advises on licensing, R&D, sponsorships, collaborations, franchising, online gaming, 'as-a-service' platforms, and consumer-facing promotions.

Alexander holds an M.A. (Jurisprudence) from the University of Oxford. He was called to the Singapore Bar in 2006 and to the Roll of Solicitors of England and Wales in 2009.

He is recommended by Who's Who Legal: Data and Who's Who Legal: Fintech, and recognised as a Notable Practitioner in IFLR1000 and a Next Generation Partner in The Legal 500. He has contributed to the PDPC's PDP Digest, the Singapore chapter of Proskauer on Privacy, and is co-author of the Singapore chapter of the International Encyclopedia of Agency Distribution Agreements.
