Daniel Liang

Daniel Liang is a Partner at Allen & Gledhill, specialising in dispute resolution, international trade and shipping law, and maritime arbitration. He regularly acts for shipowners, charterers, commodity traders, financiers, and insurers, covering all aspects of the international trade and shipping sectors, including charterparties, bills of lading, shipbuilding, ship repair, ship sale, marine insurance, sale of goods, trade finance, and credit insurance.

Daniel has extensive experience in dealing with cross-border disputes and insolvencies spanning Africa, the Middle East, Central America, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, and Oceania. He has represented creditors in the insolvencies of Berlian Laju Tankers, STX Pan-Ocean, OW Bunkers, Hanjin Shipping, Swiber Offshore, Swissco Offshore, EMAS-Chiyoda Subsea, Pacific Radiance, and Hoe Leong Corporation. He has also acted for a Chinese private equity fund to regularise and enforce vessel mortgages sold via the Taobao e-auction platform, successfully represented a Burmese rice trader in a GAFTA arbitration against a Russian food importer, assisted financiers in retrieving distressed assets in the Middle East, Indonesia, and Vietnam, and represented a fish farm operator to claim compensation for oil pollution damage caused by a vessel collision.

Daniel has experience conducting arbitrations under the LMAA, SIAC, SCMA, HKIAC, GAFTA, and PORAM rules, in addition to Singapore Court litigation. He holds an LL.B. (Hons) from the National University of Singapore and was called to the Singapore Bar in 2011. He joined Allen & Gledhill in 2013, having previously practiced in another large Singapore law firm in their shipping and admiralty practice group. He is proficient in Mandarin.
