Ian Chew

Ian Chew is a Partner at Shook Lin & Bok LLP, specialising in capital markets law, investment funds, and asset and wealth management. He advises on the establishment and structuring of private funds across a broad spectrum of investment strategies, including private equity, private credit, real estate, and infrastructure, and provides guidance to external asset managers and multi-family offices on regulatory licensing and compliance issues in Singapore.

Ian has acted for fund managers on the establishment of Singapore umbrella variable capital companies with sub‑funds for global multi‑asset allocations, guarantees and loans to borrowers in Asia, master‑feeder fund structures investing in digital assets, and climate‑focused funds for Sub‑Saharan Africa. He has also advised as Singapore counsel for a German development bank on its investment through a Singapore VCC into an Indian fund focused on agricultural technology and sustainability. On the private wealth front, he has established numerous family trusts, single family offices, and Section 13O and 13U structures for ultra‑high‑net‑worth families from Europe, Greater China, North Asia, Indonesia, and Singapore, covering wealth planning, succession planning, and immigration matters.

Ian holds an LL.B (Hons) from the National University of Singapore (2010) and was called to the Singapore Bar in 2011.
