Tan Woon Hum

Tan Woon Hum is a Partner at Shook Lin & Bok LLP and heads the firm's Asset & Wealth Management practice, specialising in capital markets law. He is widely regarded as one of the rare senior market leaders specialising in investment funds, REITs and trusts, especially Variable Capital Companies (VCCs) and family offices. He has an extremely strong track record in securing regulatory licences and exemptions, and has advised on and helped clients launch more than 200 VCCs.

He has advised on the establishment of a US$5 billion Singapore umbrella VCC with initial sub-funds for private equity investments globally, a US$1.2 billion VCC for investments in India, a US$400 million VCC for global macro asset allocations, and a US$100 million private credit fund. He has also advised on numerous offshore funds, including a US$1 billion Greater China equities Cayman fund and a US$1 billion oil & gas infrastructure Cayman SPC fund. He was lead partner in the IPOs of about 30 REITs, including those of CapitaLand, Mapletree, ARA, Lippo, ESR, Paragon, and Keppel DC REITs, as well as various REIT mergers, takeovers, acquisitions, and divestments. He also advises numerous single-family offices, family trusts, and Sections 13O and 13U structures for wealth and succession planning.

He holds an LL.B (Hons) from the National University of Singapore (1995) and an MBA (Finance) from the University of Leicester (2000). He was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of Singapore in 1996 and is fluent in English and Mandarin.

He is ranked in Band 1 in Investment Funds by Chambers Asia Pacific (2013‑2026), included in the Hall of Fame in Investment Funds by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific (2025‑2026), and named as an Elite Practitioner in Investment Funds by Asialaw Profiles (2023‑2025).
