Julian Kwek

Julian Kwek is a Director at Drew & Napier, serving as Co-Head of Corporate Restructuring & Workouts and Head of the Indonesia Group, specializing in Mergers and Acquisitions. He focuses on cross‑border M&A, joint ventures, private equity, debt workouts, and corporate restructuring, and has been consistently ranked as a leading individual in his field by leading legal publications.

Julian has been covering Indonesia since 2000, advising foreign investors and Indonesian groups on divestments and joint ventures, and has been involved in many mining projects in Indonesia. Notable matters include advising CVC on the restructuring of its investment in PT Matahari Department Store Tbk and the subsequent public offering that raised approximately US$1.36 billion; advising Metro Holdings Limited on its S$200 million and S$150 million joint ventures with PT Trans Corpora in Jakarta; advising on the US$14 billion debt workout and corporate restructuring of the Asia Pulp & Paper group (APP Group), one of the world's largest pulp and paper manufacturers; and advising PT Berlian Laju Tanker Tbk on its US$2.6 billion restructuring exercise, awarded IFLR Asia Awards 2016 Restructuring Deal of the Year. He also advises high‑net‑worth individuals and families in Indonesia and has developed close working relationships with PRC State‑Owned Enterprises over the last 20 years.

He holds an LL.B. (Hons) from the University of Wales College of Cardiff (1994), was called to the Bar of England & Wales at Middle Temple (1995), and was admitted to the Singapore Bar in 1996. He speaks and writes Mandarin and is conversant in Bahasa Indonesia.
