KUA Lay Theng

Kua Lay Theng is a Partner in the Infrastructure, Construction & Engineering Practice at WongPartnership, specialising in arbitration and mediation. She advises clients in the construction industry across the entire lifecycle of projects, from front‑end transactional work such as drafting and negotiating standard forms of building contracts, to project advisory work during execution, and contentious work arising from projects in various dispute resolution processes including international and domestic arbitration, statutory adjudication, mediation, and litigation.

She has considerable construction industry sector experience within the region, particularly in Southeast Asia, having previously been a Partner at a leading law firm in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where she handled construction‑related disputes. She also served as Deputy Registrar of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), where she supervised the administration of arbitration cases, including the scrutiny of arbitral awards and the appointment of arbitrators. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators, and sits on the SIAC Reserve Panel of Arbitrators, the AIAC Panel of Arbitrators, and the BICAM panel of arbitrators.

Kua Lay Theng holds an LL.B (Second Class Upper Division Honours) from the University of Leicester, UK, and an LL.M. from the National University of Singapore. She is admitted to the Singapore Bar, the English Bar (Middle Temple), and the Malaysian Bar. She is also an Adjunct Lecturer at the Building and Construction Authority Academy.
